Thursday Things I Don’t Understand: iDesire

Like many people around the world, I find myself overcome with lust over a not only non-existent, but as yet unconfirmed piece of kit: the rumoured and much-hyped Apple tablet.

Do I need one? No

Do I have an idea what use I would even do with one? Almost no; it’d be great for reading digital comics on during my train ride to work …

Does that stop me from wanting one? No, of course not.

I think one of the best – and certainly most honest – ads I’ve ever seen was from Apple advertising the iPod range: above pictures of the range of iPods it read simply: “iWant”. As much as I love the actual products that Apple produce, I can’t deny that they are very good at creating “iWant”.

Still, no matter how they’re marketed, I don’t generally feel such lust over products of uncertain existence, and very unclear use (for me). So why do I want this so much? I don’t understand.

Never mind. If and when the tablet is released I’m sure the Scot in me will find some reason to curb my iDesire ;)

The think I like about the iphone is it fits in my pocket and I can make calls with it and navigate and tune my guitar and use the metronome and Twitter and read etc etc etc… the thing I like about my desktop pc is it can do pretty much anything I can be bothered making it do. (including die, which it did, which is why my only computer is now my iPhone). But the itablet sounds like a stupid idea to me so far. It's just an inconveniently large iPhone. What's the point? :P #doNotWant

Well that's close to my logical process regarding the mythical tablet. The point of iDesire is that such sense holds no sway. Even though I do not see a use for it – for me – there's still this want lurking there. ;)

Ah, I think I understand. I had that yesterday over a grand piano that costs almost as much as my house in NZ, and would never even fit in my apartment here in KL. Now a kurzweiler keyboard with the weighted keys and great piano sound would be perfect and practical and a million times more logical, but I just really really really really crave a grand piano ;) And for no real reason at all, other than, I just really want it haha
