Tasering a ten year old??!

This really distresses me: a cop in Arkansas used a taser on a 10 year old girl. O_O

Wait … Whuuut???!

I don’t know what distressed me the most, but let’s break it down:

First: the mother of a 10 year old girl called police to take her away. As a son and a father I can’t actually understand this, but I do see it happening. I suppose I can imagine there might be situations in which you would call the police on your child, but … Ten. Years. Old. … And why was this 10 year old terror doing? According to the news article, the officer “… found the girl on the floor of the house screaming and crying.” Oooookay. True we don’t know what came before, but….

Secondly, when the police officer arrived, and found the girl lying on the floor screaming her mother told the officer to use his taser!! O_O Excuse me, what? It is very very (very very very) rare that I think a child should be removed from his or her parent/s, but that right there: that’d do it.

Thirdly, the officer (presumably a full-grown adult, fit and strong enough to pass the physical and become a cop) tried to take the girl away. She struggled and in the struggle kicked the officer in the crotch. So he used his taser. On. A. Ten. Year. Old. Girl!! Because she kicked him in the crotch?! I’ve lost count of the number of times my kids have kicked me in the crotch … Maybe I should head on down to the ol’ taser shoppe and get me a bit of that.

She’s 10. He’s a big strong adult police officer. And he can’t put her in the car without tasering her??! I guess we should be glad he had a taser, and didn’t have to resort to his handgun.

Seriously, I cannot imagine any context that would make this right. I hope the officer is not so numbed that he doesn’t have nightmares about this, because anyone that could taser a 10 year old and not have nightmares and beat themselves up over it would be a seriously disturbed individual.
:( The poor kid. :(
