Testing an iWorkflow

I’m going to try something new – which I’ll admit is in itself new for me. xP I’ve not really been happy with the fact that this blog has been lying fallow, so I thought about ways to get myself back into posting on it. While obviously the biggest thing is to figure out what to post (well duh), the WordPress iPad app is another thing that gets in the way – by being stoopid. Every time I use it, it says the post has failed. When it hasn’t. So I click “publish” again. So it says “failed” again. But actually posts it again. So I have to go and delete a duplicate. Blah blah whinge moan. ;)

So anyway, what other options to post from my iPad (which is really my main computer)? I’ve found myself liking WritingKit rather a lot, and using that to post markdown-formatted posts to my Tumblog (click for mostly running stuff). Then I heard from a mate about scriptogr.am, and after some consideration, and a bit of reading, decided to try that.

So, I’m thinking it’ll be: write post in WritingKit; export markdown file to Dropbox; it should then automatically become a [post at my scriptogr.am page](http://scriptogr.am/tsuken); and finally iftt should pick up the feed and create a new post on this blog (and of course you’re only likely to be reading this if it works as planned). xP

Well that didn’t work … First off, scriptogr.am doesn’t automatically post; you have to go to the website and click synchronise – which I think is a bit wet. Second, my ifttt-fu is clearly not strong, as even when. Made it post, and it showed n my scriptogr.am feed, ifttt didn’t pick it up.

So now I’m trying Poster. I can edit markdown in WritingKit and send it to Poster, and we’ll see if it posts to my blog ok. It failed at retrieving my existing posts, which was not a great sign ….

So. Ok. (Supposing this works…) Next thing: figure out what non-frustrated, angry, moaning, whingey stuff I can post here. ;)

Edit 30.08.2012: I actually discovered a little while after getting this to post, that the reason the WordPress app was failing was the same reason Poster failed to retrieve my existing posts – and then failed to post a new one: my WordPress installation was way in need of updating. So I updated to the newest version of WordPress, and all became good.

There’s a moral in there..

Stop sending me to Digg!

There is something foul on the interweb that has begun to really annoy me. Something that has begun to stop me clicking on links sent to me, or that I find in my twitter feed. That something is the practice of linking to a Digg page from which I have to click again to see the page I was supposedly being directed to. – Or the link goes to a Facebook page/status that links out to the site to which I was supposedly heading in the first place.

It’s annoying. I want to click once. I do not want to click, wait for a page to load, and find I have to click again – just so some Digg traffic can be recorded, or whatever the hell the supposed point is. (The Facebook page link thing strikes me as simply lazy.)

Stop sending me to Digg! If you want to share content, share it. Hiding it behind another page and demanding extra action on my part isn’t a good way to do so. If you want me to Digg your article, write a good article (that’d be favourite), have a prominent “digg” button – oh, and remind me of my login details for Digg while you’re at it, would you? ;) Don’t try to hornswaggle me into doing so by sending me to Digg instead of your page.

I. Will. Leave.

If I could un-digg pages like that, I would. Seriously. It stinks like a trap: trying to trick me into doing something unknowingly, or even against my wishes.

Grumble moan whinge bleat.

Spambots just keep on coming

… and Akismet keeps on droppin’

Dropping their “comments” into a spam queue for me to review and trash, that is. Here’s a wee pic of said spam queue, so you can “enjoy” the ridiculousness of the “comments” (click to embiggenate):

Ok, some of them sound almost like they’re a real person – until you look at (a) the post on which they supposedly are commenting, and (b) their url. Hmmph.

Ah well. Askimet pwns spam (at the moment at any rate) – and without me having to use captchas, or approve comments or any nastiness like that. 8)

10 things that annoy me

Following a post on the i heart guitar blog, I thought I’d take Peter’s suggestion and do a post of 10 things that annoy me (though I probably already whinge on here more often than he does on i heart guitar) ;)

Anyway, 10 things that annoy me (in no particular order) …

  1. People who denigrate virtuosity on the guitar, as though it’s ok to have chops if you’re a pianist or sax player or something, but if you play guitar all you should play are strummed chords and sloppy pentatonics :x
  2. Cookie Monster Vocals
  3. Manufactured plastic music
  4. “Reality” TV
  5. 3 + 4 >_<
  6. Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Iridology, Reiki, Acupuncture, Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, Suzanne Somers, Dr Phil, Mike Adams … Woo in all its forms
  7. Jenny McCarthy, Jim Carrey, Age of Autism, Meryl Dorey, the Australian Vaccination Network … anti-vaxxers in general.
  8. Scientology
  9. The fact I have to sleep every night – damn waste of time

Aaaaand …

10. The fact that hair metal is not recognised as the pre-eminent music force in the history of the world. \m/ 8) \m/

Another couple milestones

Or round numbers, anyway …

I don’t know why :P but I’ve reached 3000 visitors, and 20,000 page-views on this random unfocused internet weblog-thing ;) (Maybe I should have done this as a Thursday Thing I Don’t Understand – I certainly need some more posts in that category … ;) )

So why are you coming here???? :P (leave a comment and let me know). But anyway …

Thanks for reading 8)
