I’ve Been Thinking…

Which is itself, perhaps a horrifying thought.

However…

It seems clear I’ve not had the impetus to maintain the "Medicine and the Mind" portion of this blog – just barely the Music part, and that only by auto-posts. There are a few things in that, I think: my change in jobs has left me more satisfied with my actual work, and therefore feeling less inclined to rail about them on a blog; I’m generally feeling less inclined to rail about things online anyway – leading to me muting and muffling various hashtags and keywords on twitter, and having a much more pleasant and relaxed experience; I started running, and to a lesser extent going to the gym; I got back into reading, and photography continues to take a good chunk of time. And perhaps as much as all of that together: my kids are getting older, and now are both at school.

If anything, I’m feeling more inclined to use this to post my blitherings about running and exercise, photography, and the books I’m reading. However (again), I can’t rename the blog "Music, Medicine, the Mind, Running, the Gym, Photography, and Books", nor can I very well just call it "Running, Photography, the Gym, and Books", and invalidate what’s gone before.

Maybe the title of my Tumblr would suffice here as well: "The Running Reprobate". That might do it. ;-)

Anyhoo… the point is, I’m thinking I should get this blog active again, but it’s probably going to be less of the medical-psychiatric-sociopolitical-ranty-pants stuff, and more general blithering about my running, gym stuff, books, and photography.

Hmmm … That’s body and mind, right there. I might come up with something else clever. Or not so clever, who knows? Watch this space, anyway.

More Choices than Time

You might have noticed lately that I’ve been largely absent – from my own blog. I’ve also been mostly absent from my Posterous; been much less frequently Tumblring; been posting my Blips and running, not doing much looking around or commenting …

I’ve even been checking Facebook (by the way I’ve finally found an iPad Facebook app that doesn’t appear to suck, except for its name: Liike :P ) before, or sometimes even instead of Twitter. The other day I realised why: I find Facebook less engaging, with much less in the way of interesting info to read/links to follow, so it’s quicker. I just breeze in, check on family and close friends, and leave. Twitter on the other hand demands more time because there’s so much more interesting news and science and discussions and suchlike.

And of course I’ve hardly blogged at all….

Perhaps if I gave up the sudoku that I’ve just got back into; that would net me an extra 20 minutes (shame) per puzzle – but I don’t want to. There: it’s all about choices. My problem is I have more choices than time. Reading – books and comics – is another thing that has dropped off in the last little while.

I wish I could do without sleep. I really do. Such a waste of time that I could be spending on doing other things.

Anyway. I choose what to do (I chose to blither about this today), and now I’m going to choose to do sudoku. I do have a blog topic waiting to be blogged, and will have a go at getting to that in the not too distant future, but for today I’ll remember your smile (and say bye-bye now).

Culture FAIL

P63

Oh, the horror of this:

In the bookshop, Christmas shopping, and what should I happen upon but a bunch of “No Fear Shakespeare” books: “The play plus a translation anyone can understand”.

Poor old Will must be turning in his grave. I looked briefly at a few pages. It was well-nigh unbearable. Just ugly. The beauty of the language had been completely gutted. I don’t believe people are getting dumber, and somehow need this sort of “translation”. It’s simply lazy and ugly and completely uncultured.

Just a quick note

I have a couple of posts on the boil, but it’s a very slow boil. No time yesterday, and then my daughter woke at 1am this morning, kept us awake until 3, when she began vomiting. So I’ve slept about 1 1/2 hours since 5:30am yesterday morning, and I’m knackered. No way can I type anything coherent and meaningful. So take this as an apology. I hope to get at least one up by the weekend.

And my stats had been looking so good for this month too ;)

Should I assist the “new evangelisation”?

Well well. I just got a rather weird email contact via my main blog, from a Father Giovanni Maria Leonardi, who is …

…a Capuchin monk of the Holy House of Loreto in Marche in the centre of
Italy.

Riiiiight …

Through the site www.santafamigliatv.it we
are committed via Internet for the new evangelization.

he says.

… ooookay. So what is he contacting me about?

To this  aim,  we ask you for one of your film footage. (any format DVD,
VHS, minicassette) you have already realized, so as to include in our
Schedules and our Archives.

Wait, what? O_o Almost makes me want to make a video wherein I say what I actually think about religion, and send them that. :P
