There is something foul on the interweb that has begun to really annoy me. Something that has begun to stop me clicking on links sent to me, or that I find in my twitter feed. That something is the practice of linking to a Digg page from which I have to click again to see the page I was supposedly being directed to. – Or the link goes to a Facebook page/status that links out to the site to which I was supposedly heading in the first place.
It’s annoying. I want to click once. I do not want to click, wait for a page to load, and find I have to click again – just so some Digg traffic can be recorded, or whatever the hell the supposed point is. (The Facebook page link thing strikes me as simply lazy.)
Stop sending me to Digg! If you want to share content, share it. Hiding it behind another page and demanding extra action on my part isn’t a good way to do so. If you want me to Digg your article, write a good article (that’d be favourite), have a prominent “digg” button – oh, and remind me of my login details for Digg while you’re at it, would you?
Don’t try to hornswaggle me into doing so by sending me to Digg instead of your page.
I. Will. Leave.
If I could un-digg pages like that, I would. Seriously. It stinks like a trap: trying to trick me into doing something unknowingly, or even against my wishes.
Grumble moan whinge bleat.
