“I Miss Me”

15 September, 2010
By Raphael Fraser

A patient I saw today said to me one of the most poignant things I’ve ever heard; something that I thought really captured some of the essence of what it must be like to have a serious psychiatric illness – or in fact any major disturbance of the mind that still leaves awareness and insight.

It was simply: “I miss me”. It felt like a blow to the chest, as it really conveyed the total sense of loss this person was experiencing.

I just hope I can reunite them.
