How can YouTube uploads be so slow???

Unless I’m totally confused, there’s something very screwy with YouTube lately. My video uploads take aaaaaages. So long in fact that I get repeated fail. I guess there’s not just YouTube involved, so I checked my end with SpeedTest.

According to multiple tests using different servers, I have an upload speed around 0.85 Mb/s.

That’s 0.1 MB/s

That means this 133 MB ought to take about 1330 seconds

That’s 22 minutes.

… Dunno where youtube gets 14 hours fromĀ

Or am I totally confused?

It’s really beginning to rack me off. I’ve lost count of the number of times this video upload has failed. The last couple were damn slow as well – especially Rough Boy, the most recent one; I recall leaving that one overnight or something. :|

What the hell’s going on, YouTube/Google? :?: :?: :?:

basically Youtube does actually have issues with the upload servers as there are literally about a million posts asking the same questions. It seems to affect non usa redsidents more. It sucks basically :-(

Agreed. Im in Spain and more often than not it will take over an hour to upload a 70mb file. so that's about 1kb s I think irrespective of your connection/broadband speed

Usually I do not post on blogs, but I would like to say that this article really forced me to do so! Thanks, really nice article.

Looks like google has begun the long, slow, LIKELY irreversible death of Youtube. Hours or even days for uploads? It's ridiculous. I've been shocked, like you, when all of my uploads of late have taken at minimum an hour (for ~50mb files) on the low end, and as long as a full day on the high end. I've all but stopped considering YouTube a place where I should share my video content. Other sites seem much more eager for the traffic, and offer a much better experience with the basics today such as HTML video instead of flash playback.

    Google can suck it.

Hi, I've come to this site after trying to find out others who are struggling with upload speed issues. I'm currently uploading a 1.2GB 14mins of vid and staring at the progress bar, and it's like staring at the sun. I started uploading at 12:00am yesterday and since it was very slow I left it overnight, checked again at 8:00am and it has only gone to 30%! I left it plugged in, went to work, and came back at 5:00pm, and it was still at 74%! I took a nap and now at 10:00pm, the progress rate is still at 91%! Means that I will have to wait for about 2 more hours or so and that will have been 24HOURS!!! This is completely ridiculous. This is the risk they are giving the members for extending vid length to 15mins–24-hour uploading time.
