I’ve done a couple of Led Zeppelin covers on YouTube in the last couple of days. Being Led Zep covers, I figured I had to lower my guitar from its neck-high jazz-ish orientation, and get more towards Jimmy Page levels of lowness.
First up was a cover of Immigrant Song:
The strap was almost as low as it would go, but not quite. Following a couple of “too high!” comments around the place
when I did a video of the solo from Stairway to Heaven I let it down again … all the way down:
It doesn’t go any lower. 8) It does look much more rock than my usual “up high like a jazz guy” thing, but man! it is hard to play. That Stairway vid is the last of rather a large number of takes – despite it being a technically undemanding bit of music. I’ve already raised it back up to where it was
but am considering looking for the middle ground, and dropping it a little.
Also, I have rekindled my now 23 or 24 year-old love affair with my ProCo RAT2 distortion pedal. That going into an impulse response of a Marshall JCM2000 sounds (to me) pretty damn killer 8) – Especially using my new guitar.
