Electioneering

You know what I hate about elections? … Ok: one thing I hate about elections. Candidates or their “street team” hanging around handing out flyers and trying to tell you why you should vote for them.

Go. Away…. I do not wish to talk with people I don’t know in the morning. I really do not want to discuss politics at this bloody hour.

Also, who is such a fool they will change their political views based on a 5 minutes conversion attempt outside a train station? SRSLY.

However, you what i hate the most about it? My sense of empathy. I can just feel their deflation as I walk on by. It’s particularly acute when it’s the Greens (or perhaps somrone from Getup, I suppose). When I walk past without acknowledgement – and not realising they’re Greens till I’m halfway up the stairs f’rinstance – they must think “there goes another sod who doesn’t care”. It must be quite demoralising for them when people walk past. I feel bad about that.

Not bad enough to stop and acknowledge them of course; just bad enough to complain about them campaigning :P
